A Philippine SMS Platform Is Cited More Often by AI Than the Global Names It Competes With. Nobody Had Measured It.
AI visibility is being sold as a new discipline with a new playbook. It is not. The signals that decide whether an engine names your brand are the ones good SEO has always chased. This client is what that looks like after four years, and it is now cited more often than the international platforms sitting in the same answers. What it did not have was any way of knowing that, or anything in place to keep it.
The Business
A Philippine SMS gateway and API platform. Its customers are developers and operations teams sending transactional and marketing messages to Philippine mobile networks. It runs self-serve, so prospects sign up on the site rather than through a sales team, which makes signups a clean measure of whether marketing is working.
Industry: SaaS, messaging infrastructure
Location: Philippines
Services: Technical SEO, On-Page, Content, Off-Page
Engagement: Ongoing since 2022
Challenge & Goals
Buyers here increasingly ask an AI assistant which provider to use. The answer arrives as a shortlist of named vendors, and the decision is often made before any analytics platform sees a visit. Our study of 1,146 buyer questions found the same pattern across Philippine categories.
The goal was never to chase AI. It was to be the most useful answer in a crowded category, whoever was asking.
Strategies & Solutions
One change mattered more than the rest. Every article was rebuilt with clear headings, a short summary at the top and an FAQ section. That was done as SEO, years before anyone was selling AEO, and it is precisely the structure that lets a language model lift a page and quote it.
The rest was foundations, run in order over four years. Crawlability and indexing corrected and reconciled against Search Console. Analytics and key events installed so decisions ran on conversions rather than traffic. Priority pages given unique titles, a clean heading hierarchy, internal links carrying authority to them, and validated Core Web Vitals. Authority earned off-site through editorial outreach weighted towards genuine publications rather than volume.
And the pages themselves are what get cited. Every citation this brand earns points at its own pages, not a directory or a review site.
Results
Named in every buyer question we tested, twice. Across eight unbranded category questions, none of which mentioned any vendor, the brand was named in all eight. We ran the same eight questions again eight days later and it was named in all eight again.
| Measure | Result | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Rank among domains cited | 1st of 98 | 1st of 93 in the first run |
| Citations | 16 | 14 for the next brand |
| Buyer questions naming the brand | 8 of 8 | 8 of 8 again, eight days later |
| AI-referred signup rate | 26.30% | 6.85% from organic search, a 3.84x difference |
| Months AI out-converted organic | 13 of 13 | every month of the period |
| Share of all signups | 8.4% | from 6,505 AI-referred sessions |
Measured across eight unbranded buyer questions, run twice, eight days apart. Conversion figures from GA4, thirteen months to July 2026.
The most-cited domain in its category, in both runs. It ranked first out of 93 domains in the first run and first out of 98 in the second, with 17 then 16 citations against 14 for the next brand each time. The brands beneath it include international platforms operating in the same market. Every one of those citations points at its own pages.
And that traffic converts. Over the thirteen months to July 2026, AI-referred visitors signed up at 26.30% against 6.85% from organic search, a 3.84x difference across 6,505 sessions and 1,711 signups. AI referrals account for 8.4% of all signups and out-converted organic search in every month of the period.
None of it came from an AI campaign. It came from four years of SEO, which is the good news and the problem at once. The business was earning this position without knowing it, without knowing which answers it was still missing, and without anything in place to keep it. Being named in all eight questions is not the same as being named by every engine on every question. In both runs there were answers that named somebody else.
What moved between the two runs is the useful part. The rank held and the eight-from-eight held, but the per-engine detail did not: one question gained an engine, four lost one, and the order of the brands underneath reshuffled. A single run would have published a number that was never stable. That is the case for measuring monthly rather than once, and it is why we report the position rather than a snapshot statistic.
Why the SEO work is what made this possible
The structure that makes a page quotable was built as SEO. Every article here was rebuilt with clear headings, a summary at the top and an FAQ section, and that was logged as a blog optimisation task years before anyone was selling AEO. It is also the exact shape a language model needs to lift an answer.
Look at where the citations point. Every one lands on this brand’s own pages, not a directory, a review roundup or a marketplace listing. The engines are quoting the site itself, which means the thing being cited is the asset four years of content and technical work produced. Remove it and there is nothing for a model to quote.
That part AEO cannot manufacture. What it can do is make the asset harder to misread: entity clarity so the engines describe the business correctly, answer-first structure and schema so pages are simple to extract, expertise signals on the people behind them.
And it is the only thing that catches movement. Between two runs eight days apart, five of the eight questions changed which engines named the brand. Nobody inside the business would have known either way. That is the job: not to invent the position, but to see it, prove it and hold it.
